Capel Cottage Nursery is a charming independent nursery conveniently located on the A228 within a quick drive of Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Tonbridge. We have ample car parking and paved access for disabled visitors and families with pushchairs.
We stock a wide range of garden plants for all situations and seasons. We have an extensive stock of cottage garden perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs vegetables and herbs. We grow most of our own plants on site, both out of doors and undercover. We also stock a wide range of plant care products, pots, garden ornaments and furniture as well as landscaping products.
We are proud that our commitment to quality, expert knowledge and friendly, personal service has made us the nursery of choice for locals as well as garden enthusiasts from further afield.
No Dogs Allowed – Unfortunately due to a number of incidents, we have made the decision that dogs are no longer allowed at the nursery – with the exception of assistance dogs.

Spring is well underway in the garden, and signs of the new season are appearing everywhere. Bulbs are pushing through the soil and beginning to flower, bringing fresh colour back to borders and beds. Primroses are now in full bloom and providing a cheerful display, while our home-grown Sennetti plants are flowering beautifully and adding vibrant colour to early spring planting.
Across the garden, shrubs are beginning to burst into life. Forsythia is producing its familiar burst of bright yellow flowers on bare stems, while magnolia buds are opening to reveal elegant white and pink blooms. Camellias are looking particularly impressive at the moment, with large, colourful flowers available in a wide range of shades.
Fragrance is also returning to the garden as Daphne shrubs begin to flower, filling the air with their well-known, intoxicating scent. Rhododendrons and azaleas are developing strong buds ready for spectacular flowering in April. Our azalea shrubs are currently on special offer at £5.99 each or four for £20.
Elsewhere, mimosa trees are displaying clusters of small, bright yellow ball-shaped flowers which are wonderfully scented. Photinia ‘Red Robin’ shrubs are producing their striking flush of vivid red new growth, and Pieris plants are heavily laden with elegant hanging flowers. Prunus blossom shrubs are also beginning to show their stunning spring displays, with bare branches covered in delicate pink and white blossom.
We have a wide selection of new evergreen and deciduous shrubs now in stock. Early spring is the perfect time to plant shrubs, hedging, trees, climbers and perennials. The soil is beginning to warm and there is still plenty of moisture in the ground, giving newly planted specimens an excellent start before the warmer months arrive.
A useful spring gardening tip is to mulch your beds and borders. Digging in well-rotted manure or organic matter will help enrich the soil and provide valuable nutrients for plant roots as they begin their new season of growth.

There is plenty happening in the nursery at the moment as we continue to receive new plug plants every week. Our team is busy potting up large quantities so that they will be ready for the coming season. In just a few weeks our first batch of perennial plants will be ready for sale, and we will once again be running our popular offer at £8.99 each or any 4 for £30. These perennials are varied, colourful and excellent value, perfect for adding long-lasting interest to your garden.
Our bedding plants, hanging basket plants and vegetable plants are also now being planted and grown on, ready for the main April selling season. Many of our regular customers have already booked in their empty hanging baskets to be replanted, and spaces are filling quickly. New customers are welcome but we recommend booking early. We will also have a large selection of ready-made summer baskets available to purchase.
If you are looking to create or improve a hedge, now is an ideal time to plant. Laurel hedging is particularly popular at the moment as it is an evergreen plant that grows well in most soils and positions, forming a dense, fast-growing hedge.

We have also just taken delivery of around 15 trolleys of specimen plants, including unusual, structural and architectural varieties, as well as some impressive mature olive trees which make striking focal points for the garden.
